My own data is stored on other peoples' personal servers in other parts of the world. I know people who do this if they have too much data for online backups. If the drive is properly encrypted, you could just as securely store it in your drawer at your office, without the hassle of having to wait at a bank. Storing a hard drive in a bank lock box strikes me as both massively inconvenient and unnecessary from a security perspective. If it is, why would a password for your Backup Drive be desired, required, or needed. Just curious, is your "Off Site" storage in a facility such as your Bank Lock Box. I have no idea what would be useful for you.
